What is Unique About Salem’s Taco Crawl & Cinco de Micro?

Cinco de Mayo is kind of a big deal around here.  The sixth annual Cinco de Micro Brewfest is just around the corner and it’s “all hands on deck” here at The Salem Block (The Salem Convention Center, Grand Hotel Salem and Bentley’s Grill).  The 6th Annual Cinco de Micro Brewfest, a three-day extravaganza and one of THE biggest events of the year in Salem, Oregon will be happening here in our courtyard right in the heart of downtown Salem on Thursday May 4th-Saturday May 6th.

In addition, Bentley’s Grill is gearing up for the annual Salem Oregon Taco Crawl, happening concurrently with Cinco de Micro Brewfest. This will be the 3rd year Bentley’s Grill has participated in this delicious celebration of Cinco De Mayo. It’s a great opportunity to embark on a downtown Salem taco adventure starting on Wednesday May 3rd, 2017. Bentley’s Grill will be competing with other downtown restaurants in a fun competition for the best taco. We HIGHLY recommend coming to Bentley’s May 3rd to nosh on their Jamaican Island Taco along with great drink specials.

Why are these events so unique? We think it’s amazing how Salem’s Taco Crawl & Cinco de Micro Brewfest brings our community together to celebrate local food & beverage while raising money for great causes. 100% of the proceeds from Cinco de Micro will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion & Polk Counties.  The organization hopes this year’s event will raise $100,000 for special enrichment programs for local children. Not to mention, it is organized by and run by volunteers! Taco Crawl is organized by The Moxie Initiative, a 501c3 nonprofit community organization that enhances our community with projects/programs include like TEDxSalem (www.tedxsalem.us), Make Music Day Salem, Halloweek, StoryCorps Salem and more.

Why We Love the Cinco de Micro Brewfest

Not only is it a blast, it’s the largest fundraiser held annually in our facility. What began as a one day event with several hundred guests to celebrate Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a 3-day festival accommodating up to 7000 guests along with 65 breweries, local eateries, breweries and tons of great musical entertainment featuring our favorite local bands like Salem’s own JFK

The Salem Convention Center has been the site of the Cinco de Micro Brewfest since it began in 2011 and it’s been an honor to watch it grow into one of Salem Oregon’s premiere fundraising events. “It means a lot to us that the event organizers have trusted us each year to help the event grow and prosper,”  says SCC’s Special Events Coordinator, Soraida Cross.

“It’s our finest moment just to see people come down and get together,” Mary Eastridge, Boys & Girls Club board member tells The Statesman Journal. “It’s community-building and makes people aware of the Boys & Girls Club.”

We think this event is unique because there is truly something for everyone, no matter the age or background. If you’re a beer aficionado and prefer a quieter setting, you may want to come out earlier in the day, while the night hours tend to be more social. Guests can move with ease through multiple spaces within our facility including our outdoor patio and our Santiam Room as they sample craft brews, food and enjoying fabulous entertainment. In addition, the adjoining Grand Hotel in Salem offers discounts to festival guests for their convenience and safety.

This event has been embraced by the community because it celebrates the best of our local eateries along with the booming Oregon Craft Beer industry. Guests have the opportunity to sample dishes from some of Oregon’s best restaurants and to taste hard to find, spring release brews. If beer isn’t your thing, there will be plenty vendors providing cider and spirits in the “non-beer category”.
