Preserving the environment has been a priority for the Salem Convention Center from Day 1. Our facility was designed and constructed with the intent of conforming to the standards of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. You have probably heard of LEED, but what does it really mean? Simply put, LEED is a rating system for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, homes and neighborhoods. As a result, more organizations (including ours) are operating a more environmentally and socially responsible organization. It has been nearly 3 years since SCC has officially obtained LEED certification by U.S. Green Building Council, the nation's preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. We achieved LEED certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. Our interior is built with local recycled materials (all from within a 500 mile radius of Salem); and features large expansive windows for natural light.
