This month, we'd love to introduce you to Nina Scofield, our incredible Special Events Coordinator. Nina's dedication to coordinating outstanding events and her versatile skill set are what truly make some of our best events come to life. She's an asset to the convention center, a joy to have around, and guests appreciate her willingness to go above and beyond when it comes to coordinating their events. We spent the day talking to Nina and shadowing her as she spent a day around the convention center. Here's the ins and outs of a day-in-the-life of our Special Events Coordinator. How Do You Start Your Day at Work? Nina arrives at the Salem Convention Center with a bright, 'Good morning' that sets the tone for the entire team. It's more than just a greeting; it's a reminder of the collaborative spirit that fuels our events and a demeanor that Nina embodies whole heartedly. Her day starts with a proactive review of the schedule. Immersing herself in the lineup of events is something that Nina said, “Helps me get a clear picture of the day ahead.” What Are Your Responsibilities? Nina thrives in a world of variety. Her days are a whirlwind of tasks, each one serving a purpose that furthers our convention center goal of hosting incredible events. She effortlessly juggles projects that she said include, “Assisting with administrative duties and sales projects, helping to serve with banquets during particularly busy periods, client communications, designing buffet signage and custom bar menus, along with producing and creating some of our social media content.” How Do You Solve Challenges That Arise? Events are rarely without their hiccups. But for Nina, challenges are just another opportunity to shine. Faced with an unexpected hurdle, her first step is to get to the root of the problem. She asks questions to better understand how she can remedy an issue, ensuring she's tackling the problem, not just its symptoms. She isn't one to provide a band-aid solution. If she's going to take care of a problem for an event, she truly does take care of it. She also understands how much truth is in the saying, “There's no ‘I' in team.” She leverages the strengths of her team by identifying the colleagues with the most relevant expertise in the area she needs help in. Together, they brainstorm potential solutions and outcomes, drawing on their combined knowledge to find the most effective approach. Once a plan is put in place, clear communication is paramount. Nina ensures everyone involved is on the same page, delegating tasks and keeping everyone informed along the way. This meticulous coordination ensures a smooth resolution, minimizing disruption and keeping the event on track. What is Your Favorite Part About Working at The Salem Convention Center? We asked Nina what she loves most about being employed by the Salem Convention Center and her answer was immediate: the team.
