A few of us from the Salem Convention Center drove up to Portland, Oregon late last week to attend the Oregon Business magazine's fourth annual celebration of the 100 Best Green Companies to Work For in Oregon celebration at The Nines Hotel. We were among 300 people in attendence at the event to honor companies and organizations where employees felt there was a strong commitment to green practices at their workplace. We were absolutely thrilled and honored when Andrew Insinga, Publisher of Oregon Business Magazine, announced The Salem Convention Center is #7 on that prestigious list. Here is is what he had to say about us during the ceremony: “We are one of the best green teams in town.' No small statement from this employee of a Salem organization that practices what it preaches. It has added a solar power generation system that generates about 11% of its building's total energy usage. This company also received the Absolutely Green Award for 2009-10 by Travel Salem and was named the Sustainable Large Business of the Year by the 2011 Mid-Willamette Valley Green Awards. Its building is LEED certified, Earthwise certified and it purchases wind power through PGE. Every new employee reads and signs off on Product Recycling Procedures that highlight its commitment to the community, the environment and the company to recycle and compost. In addition, there are monthly Green Team meetings to discuss how to improve practices. 'Our staff is very motivated to be the leader in this city for Green Business practices,' says one employee. 'They take great pride when we are recognized for our daily composting and recycling.' This is their first appearance on the 100 Best Green list, but we don't believe its last one. Congratulations to the No. 7 Best Green Company to Work For in Oregon: THE SALEM CONVENTION CENTER Thank you to Oregon Business magazine for giving us this recognition about our sustainability practices! The 100 Best Green Companies are featured in the June issue of Oregon Business magazine!
