“We are excited to have Jerry Rice, a household name on the West Coast, be our featured speaker at the Mid-Valley Sports Awards.” - Ryan Kedzierski, Statesman Journal president top high school athletes (and future superstars) along with NFL great, Jerry Rice for the inaugural Mid-Valley Sports Awards presented by the Statesman Journal. The ceremony will be a formal gala celebrating the most elite student athletes in the Mid-Valley. More than 100 students will be invited to the event, where the Statesman Journal will name a player of the year for each of the 19 OSAA sports as well as the male and female Athletes of the Year, Coach of the Year and — the biggest award of the night — the Capitol Cup. We are thrilled to welcome these future superstars, in addition to Pro Football Hall of Famer, Jerry Rice, considered by many to be the greatest wide receiver ever. The three-time Super Bowl champion played 20 seasons with the NFL (15 seasons in San Francisco) and holds more than 100 league records including receptions, touchdown receptions and receiving yards.
