Today is Wednesday, September 7th- and that means Downtown Salem Oregon comes alive tonight from 5-8pm for Salem's First Wednesday! If you have never been to First Wednesday, you don't know what you are missing. This is one of our favorite monthly events and showcases the best of our downtown featuring local art, music, food, and all of the fabulous boutiques, art galleries, salons and restaurants that make up our downtown! Here are some highlights you will see tonight September 7: Art Walk in galleries throughout downtown - see details on www.gofirstwednesday Live Music with The OSU Steel Drum Band at McGoo's; The Ty Curtis Band in front of Willamette Noodle Company, Greek Family Dancing at Macedonia Restaurant and Open Mic Poetry at Brigadoon Books in the Reed Opera House. Food For Thought: A city-wide pep rally tonight organized by Women Ending Hunger to raise awareness for childhood hunger. The event starts at the State Capitol, at 5pm volunteers will line Court Street, ending at the Community Pep Rally at Court and Front Streets. Back to School Pep Rally: Go Downtown Salem, in partnership with Salem-Keizer Education Foundation will kick off the school community pep rally featuring seven Salem-Keizer high school bands, cheerleaders, student body presidents and more. North Salem HS Band will kick the event off at 6pm with the National Anthem, followed by bands from the six traditional high schools and the drum corp from Roberts High School. All performances will be held at the corner of Court and Commercial streets, Northeast. Travel Salem will have signature treats from Alcyone Café & Catering; day tour ideas from Oregon Country Tours and award winning wine from Willamette Valley Vineyards at Travel Salem's Travel Café Visitors Center at 181 High St from 5 to 8 pm.
